Baldur’s Gate 3’s Underdark is just a fraction of the real Underdark. The Underdark is home to the Drow, Duergar, and Deep Gnomes.

The Underdark has several overland access points because of its enormous vastness. In all of them, one must journey (or fall) far into the world’s depths.

Access points to the Underdark are known to exist in the following locations:

  • Ladder from the Defiled Temple, arriving in the Selunite Outpost.
  • Elevator from the Zhentarim Hideout, arriving in the Storehouse.
  • Mushroom Circle in the Overgrown Tunnel to a corresponding circle in Torchstalk Gulch
  • Falling into the hole in the Whispering Depths, arriving in the Minotaur Hills.  Feather Fall or the ability to Fly must be used or a cutscene will show the party falling to death.

Underdark Full Map

The main Underdark section on this map is reachable from a few aboveground entrances. This map just displays all of the locations and entrances; see the other maps below for a deeper look at the sub-areas that highlight additional places of interest.

Ebonlake Grotto (Myconid Colony)

The Myconid Colony lives in the Ebonlake Grotto. Myconid residents with minds linked to the present Sovereign make up the majority of the inhabitants. Some of the folks here are not Myconid.

Storehouse

Gekh Coal leads a group of Duergar bandits in the Decrepit Village, which is near the Beach waypoint.

Selunite Outpost

Underdark Map Selunite Outpost | Tellagraph.com
Underdark Map Selunite Outpost | Tellagraph.com

Any attackers approaching from the entrance will be attacked by the active defensive mechanism of the wrecked Selunite Outpost. This location contains the Defiled Temple, which is the aboveground entrance to the Underdark.

Safely Enter the Outpost by Destroying the Moonstone

There are two ways to enter the structure if you didn’t enter through the Defiled Temple. You will require a small character, such as a Gnome, or be in a Gaseous Form in order to enter the Rocky Crevice to the east, which may be exposed with a perception check. Jumping to the ledge west of the bridge is another route to enter the west window, although you may get struck in the process.

Just use a ranged attack to strike the Moonstone once you’re inside. To allow your other party members to enter through the front entrance, press the lever next to the gate.

Arcane Tower

Underdark Map Arcane Tower | Tellagraph.com
Underdark Map Arcane Tower | Tellagraph.com

When you approach the Arcane Tower, which is located in the southern region of the map, you will be attacked by its powerful Arcane Turrets. By traveling around to the rear of the tower, one can reach a handful of its entrances.

Although the Arcane Turrets themselves are vulnerable to electric-based attacks, you may deactivate them by turning off the tower’s lowest level power supply.

Ebonlake

The body of water that links the Grymforge and the main Underdark region is called the Ebonlake. When you come across the Duergar boat that will interrogate you, you will only stay here for a short time.

Attacking the Duergar is the only way to investigate the boats; after you leave this region, you won’t be able to do so.

The Festering Cove

A small tribe of Kuo-toa who worship BOOOAL live in the Festering Cove, a little swampy area under the Underdark. There are several fish and chests in the vicinity.

Underdark Points of Interest

Myconid Colony Waypoint

In the center of the Ebonlake Grotto region is the Myconid Colony Waypoint.

People of Interest

Sovereign Spaw

The initial monarch of the Myconid Colony was Sovereign Spaw. You will need to locate it at the high mushroom in the center of the area, where it will be communicating with the other Myconids. It will give you a few quests to do.

Sovereign Glut

A Myconid that is not under Spaw’s authority is Sovereign Glut. Talk to Spaw first, then head southwest to speak with Glut, who will agree to fight alongside you against the Druegars.

We advise against completing its ambition to topple Spaw right away; when you fight the druegar, don’t speak to it. Because it can bring back any enemy—even strong bosses—as long as you remain in the Underdark, Glut is a very helpful companion that gives you two more combat companions.

Thulla

A poisoned gnome called Thulla may be found next to Sovereign Spaw. The Druegar has been after her in the Underdark since she took their sergeant’s Boots of Speed.

She will voluntarily give you the boots if you heal her with an antidote, which the Druegar at the beach will have. You can also simply murder her or let her die from the poison.

Blurg

A buddy of the mindflayer Omeluum, Blurg is a hobgoblin who belongs to The Society of Brilliance. In addition, he is a dealer with a wide variety of items to offer, some of which are unique to him.

Omeluum

Omeluum belongs to The Society of Brilliance and is a mindflayer. As part of the Find a Cure main quest, he will show up when you are initially speaking with Blurg and is interested in getting rid of the tadpole in your mind.

Derryth Bonecloak

Derryth, a trader in the Ebonlake Grotto, is trying to find her husband, Baelen Bonecloak, who has gone missing. If you discover him, she will award you with the Gloves of Unhibited Kushigo.

Guardian Gate

A group of vines known as the Guardian Gate encloses a area close to Derryth. These vines cannot be destroyed; the only way to go past this barrier is to finish Protect the Myconid Circle, the first task Spaw gave you.

You won’t be able to open this gate and access its contents in the future if you decide to murder Spaw by aiding Glut. Don’t chat to Glut to further his quest; instead, speak to Spaw straight after you’ve defeated the druegar.

Pale Corpse: The Great Furnace of Grymforge

The Great Furnace of Grymforge is the most precious valuables in the Pale Corpse’s possession, which may be accessed in the chamber behind the Guardian Gate. Keep in mind that it will initially show up in his inventory as the Flumph Mating Rituals, and the book’s true form will only become apparent if you pass the check while reading it.

Shadow of Menzaberranzan

The Shadow of Menzaberranzan is a Rare Headgear that grants the beneficial Shrouded in Shadow ability, which renders the wearer invisible, and is located next to the Pale Corpse behind the Guardian Gate.

Dread Hollow Points of Interest

Underdark Sussur Tree Waypoint

The Sussur Tree Waypoint is situated next to a few Hooked Horrors in the northeast section of Dread Hollow.

Sussur Tree Bark

You may manufacture a Masterwork weapon in the Blighted Village blacksmith forge by completing the Finish the Masterwork Weapon quest, which requires the Sussur Tree Bark.

Filro the Forgotten

When you approach Filro the Forgotten, a boss enemy in the Dread Hollow, he will start fighting you with the Hook Horrors around.

He is one of the three Drow searching for the Adamantine Forge; you may learn more about the forge by using a Speak with Dead spell after you kill him.

Bulette

You will find Bulette, a powerful monster in the southern section of Dread Hollow, skulking around and throwing your party members off balance. When you approach its territory, try to avoid having your party members gathered up and prepared for the ambush attack.

Tombstone: Dog Collar

There is a tombstone in the southeast section of the Dread Hollow. To obtain the Dog Collar amulet, engage with it and excavate the grave. This action has no negative effects.

When worn when pushing a button next to the dog bed in the Arcane Tower, this item will have an impact even if it has no effect in battle or during exploration.

Decrepit Village Points of Interest

Underdark Beach Waypoint

The Beach Waypoint is close to Decrepit Village’s coast.

Gekh Coal

Underdark Map Gekh Coal | Tellagraph.com
Underdark Map Gekh Coal | Tellagraph.com

The leader of the beach’s druegar is Gekh Coal. If you don’t assault him when you first meet him, he will provide you the Find the Missing Boots quest. If you have Glut in your party, he will be hostile right away.

The questlines for Spaw and Glut require you to kill him, and as he is carrying the antidote for Thulla’s poison, it is also beneficial to kill him for her.

Underdark Druegar Boat

Gekh Coal owns the Underdark Druegar Boat, which is the means of transportation that enables you to reach the Grymforge. Even if Gekh Coal is still alive, you can still sail this boat, but he will be enraged and hostile toward you the moment you return to the beach.

A Druegar boat will interrogate you when you travel with it for the first time and, according on your choices, will either attack you or release you safely.

Selunite Outpost Points of Interest

Underdark Selunite Outpost Waypoint

Inside the outpost, near the east side of the building, lies the Selunite Outpost Waypoint.

Portcullis

The outpost’s gate entrance is called the Portcullis. At first, it will be closed, and if you approach through the entrance, two statues will attack you (a Minotaur will first be there to show off these statues).

You must pull the lever inside the outpost, next to the portcullis, to unlock it.

Moonstone

You must destroy the Moonstone in order to render the attacking statues at the front entrance of the outpost inoperable. It may be destroyed by any ranged attack and is situated inside the outpost at the top of the statue.

Rocky Crevice Entrance

To the northeast of the gate lies the Rocky Crevice, one of the outpost’s entrances. You must use a Perception Check to identify it, then enter through it using a small character, like a Gnome, or be in a Gaseous Form.

After that, you can flip the lever to let your other characters in after destroying the Moonstone from the inside.

Gilded Chest: Helmet of Smiting

There will be traps close by as you go closer to the Gilded Chest, which is by the terrace at the outpost. To obtain the rare Helmet of Smiting equipment, lockpick the chest to open it.

Arcane Tower Points of Interest

Ornate Door

The Arcane Tower’s front entrance is known as the Ornate Door. Since you will have to deal with these turrets both inside and outside the tower, it is not advised to enter by this gate until you have disarmed the Arcane Turrets.

Locked Door

The Arcane Tower’s Locked Door is situated behind the tower. You must jump across the mushrooms to get to here, which is south of the tower. To unlock this door from the outside, you will need to lockpick it.

Hole

A perception check will reveal this hole next to the Arcane Tower. You must jump across the mushrooms to get to here, which is south of the tower.

Small races cannot access this passageway due to its extreme smallness; a character in a Gaseous Form is the only method to enter. You can enter the garden west of the tower using a Scroll of Gaseous Form, and then open the Locked Door for the other members of your party from within.

Festering Cove Points of Interest

Boooal

The Kuo-Toa’s god is BOOOAL. Speak to Pooldripp the Zealous before you speak to him. You have the option to fight and kill him, work with him, or sacrifice a member of your party in his honor.

He won’t have a lot of loot on him if you kill him. He’ll grant you the Sickle of BOOOAL if you team up with him. The surviving party members will benefit from the BOOOAL’s Benediction boost for the remainder of the game, which provides them an advantage against Bleeding targets, and if you sacrifice one of your party members, they will be permanently dead (you won’t be able to recover them in any manner).

Pooldripp the Zealous

The Kuo-Toa, the fish people who worship BOOOAL, are led by Pooldripp in an acting capacity. You will be able to communicate with BOOOAL when you speak with him.

If BOOOAL didn’t end up giving you the Sickle of BOOOAL weapon, you may either murder him or pickpocket him for it.

Underdark Outskirts Points of Interest

Spectator and Dhourn

West of the Selunite Outpost is where you’ll find the Spectator. All you have to do is stroll past the crowd of terrified folks to see it. There is no avoiding the fact that it will launch a surprise strike against you.

Also, it will bring Dhourn and his companions back to fight for him; however, you may turn this off by beating Spectator or assaulting them once. You can chat to Dhourn if he’s still alive. You can locate the forge by passing checks or using a Speak with Dead ability to Speak with his corpse.

Cragged Rock: Festering Cove

This Cragged Rock, which leads to the Festering Cove, another Underdark location, is located west of the Selunite Outpost and southeast of the Decrepit Village.

Heavy Chest: Drow Studded Leather Armour

This Heavy Chest, which is located southeast of the Decrepit Village, is home to the rare Drow-Studded Leather Armour equipment.

On Educating the Faithful

The On Educating the Faithful book is located next to the Heavy Chest, southeast of the Decrepit Village. You should read this book because it will inspire Gale.

Phalar Aluve

Underdark Map Phalar Aluve | Tellagraph.com
Underdark Map Phalar Aluve | Tellagraph.com

The Phalar Aluve weapon is stuck to the earth northeast of the Selunite Outpost. To remove it, you must pass the Strength or Religion check.

Baelen Bonecloak

Derryth Bonecloak is searching for his husband, Baelen Bonecloak, via the Find the Mushroom Picker quest. He is located north of the Sussur Tree in the northwest section of the map, in the field of exploding mushrooms.

He has a Scroll of Misty Step in his backpack nearby, and you will need to deliver it to him in order to save him. As long as you don’t set off the mushrooms, you can access it by using a Fly spell, using Misty Step yourself, or in other methods.
