Best Cleric Build Bg3 introduction
The Cleric is a multipurpose class that can crowd control, deal with damage, and heal. Although the Light Cleric is a potent spellcaster damage dealer, many people mistakenly believe that clerics are only healers. They are quite useful for your party and are excellent at damaging radiant areas. In contrast to a healer, this build favors the Light Cleric and is optimized for radiant AOE damage. If you want to heal yourself, we recommend Life Cleric.
Because the Cleric class often has a wide range of weapon and armor proficiency, you have a lot of build possibilities. Additionally, you get the ability to wield a shield, which you may use to instantly boost survivability when attached to a mace or quarterstaff. The Cleric’s limited mobility and bonus action utility are its drawbacks. Except for a few spells, the Cleric’s bonus action cannot be used for many other purposes. The Cleric also has a tougher time gaining additional actions or casting two spells in a single turn. A Cleric spellcaster must be careful to cast just one concentration spell at a time or lose the benefit of their previous spell if they have several of them.

How To Be An Overpowered Cleric Build Bg3 At Every Level In Baldur’s Gate 3
Cleric Build Bg3 Recommended Backgrounds
In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Folk Hero background is the best choice for a light cleric as it grants two wisdom-based skills that are useful in non-combat situations. However, Clerics should select at least a couple of the following proficiencies to get the most out of the build: Animal Handling, Perception, Insight, Medicine, and Survival. These skills enhance your Wisdom, which is your main stat. To improve survivability, you may invest a little more into a Dexterity bonus.
- Acolyte: Proficiency in Insight (wisdom) and Religion (intelligence). Your entire life has been devoted to serving a temple, learning sacred rites, and offering sacrifices to the god or gods you serve. Shadowheart is a Acolyte of.
- Guild Artisan: Proficiency in Insight (wisdom) and Persuasion (charisma). Your skill in a particular craft has earned you membership in a mercantile guild, offering privileges and protection while engaging in your art. No Guild Artisan companions in BG3.
- Folk Hero: Proficiency in Animal Handling (wisdom) and Survival (wisdom). You’re a champion of the common people, challenging tyrants, and monsters to protect the helpless. Folk Hero companions in BG3 are Minsc and Wyll.
Best Cleric Build Bg3 Race
Asmodeus Tiefling is the greatest race to choose for a Light Domain Cleric build in Baldur’s Gate 3 since you gain additional Darkness spell, fire resistance, dark vision, and a Hellish Rebuke. This aids in dealing Hellish Rebuke damage to attackers. Given that you have more Cantrip, Fey Ancestry, and Darkvision, High Elf is the second choice.
Think about the racial traits that raise your ability score main stat when selecting a race for your cleric. These races each have special benefits that can improve your utility, survivability, or combat prowess. When utilizing the Baldur’s Gate 3 Cleric Build Guide, don’t forget to take into account the roleplaying possibilities and character concepts that speak to you.
High Elf
- Extra Cantrip
- Elven Weapon Training
- Fey Ancestry
- Darkvision
Asmodeus Tiefling
- Fire Resistance
- Hellish Rebuke
- Darkness
- Darkvision
Although the Cleric’s race choose will not affect ability score, everyone should still receive a +2 and +1 to spend. This gives you the freedom to select a race that will not entirely harm you based on ability score but rather race features. These races each have special benefits that can improve your prowess, survivability, or utility.
Best Cleric Build Bg3 Subclass
The Light Domain subclass features a decent balance of damage and healing with a concentration on damage. It’s the option that many gamers prefer. Early in the game, it’s difficult to do damage equivalent to Sorcerers or Wiazrds due to the absence of flexible area-of-effect spells. On the other hand, your Light Domain Cleric will feel more powerful the more levels they have. One of the strongest classes for mid- to late-game fighting, this one is quite potent. We recommend using the Light Domain for optimal results because it will result in like steps regardless of the subclass you select and a minor modification in the build.
List of the Best Cleric Build Bg3 subclasses:
- Life Domain: They are adept at casting healing spells, and they may also utilize their heavenly might to give their comrades more hit points.
- Knowledge Domain: Dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and skilled in history, religion, and the arcana.

- War Domain: proficient with both weapons and armor, and they have the ability to strengthen their fighting abilities with the use of divine power.

Best Companions for Cleric Build Bg3
We do not advise using a different frontal damage dealer for the Light Cleric Build because you and either Lae’zel or Karlach will perform that role. The idea behind the build is to use your Cleric for support in one or two melee fights against a big damage dealer. Area damage, crowd control, and burst at range may all be facilitated by having damage dealers and range casters.
Here is a list of all the metamagic options in Baldur’s Gate 3:
- Lae’zeal Fighter: Damage, in-your-face aggression, crowd control
- Gale Wizard: range magic damage, utility spells, crowd control
- Astarion Rogue: Lockpicking, sneaking, damage, High Initiative
When assembling your party, take into account companions for their outer skills and abilities that can impact dialogue, storytelling, and exploration in addition to their fighting capability. The classic RPG “holy trinity” of Tank, Healer, and DPS will be satisfied by a balanced group. In Baldur’s Gate 3, you should ideally have one melee DPS, one range DPS, one tank, and one healer. You can try several classes and subclasses to see which one best suits you, as some can cover both roles.

- Repulsor: Massive area knockback that can hit friendlies.
Best Cleric Build Bg3 Level Progression
Level 1
To choose the right background, race, skills, and ability score distributions at Level One, concentrate on Wisdom and Constitution by following the above-mentioned character creation processes. You should pair your shield and quarterstaff with medium armour. At level 1, the Cleric choose their subclass, which opens them a vast array of prepared spells, subclass spells, and cantrips. The subclass you choose will provide you spells that are always ready. Thus, if you see any spells in your spellbook or quick bar that you didn’t choose, they are from the Light subclass. The Light subclass places more emphasis on dealing spell damage than on healing and support. We will thus emphasize those benefits, and you need to view those selections.
- Subclass Features
- Faerie Fire Spell: Attack Rolls against targets within the light have an advantage when they turn visible. Gives an advantage that helps with damage by rolling two D20 dice and taking the highest of the two.
- Light Cantrip: Infuse an object with an aura of light. Help while exploring and in combat without Darkvision racial features.
- Warding Flare: Put on a heavenly light shield. Utilize your reaction to put an attacker at a disadvantage and maybe deflect their attack. aids in the event of an assault.
- Burning Hands Spell: 3d6 fire damage in a 5m cone. Great Conal fire damage spell.
- Cantrip Feature
- Sacred Flame: Conjure a flame-like radiance that deals 1d8 Radiant. This Cantrip acts with a very low damage range ability that can be used without a spell slow.
- Guidance: Bestow guidance upon an ally. They gain a +1d4 bonus to Ability Checks. This spell is critical during dialogue checks and is very useful outside of combat.
- Thaumaturgy: Gain Advantage on Intimidation and Performance Checks. Another helpful noncombat-related cantrip.
- Spell Features
- Inflict Wounds: 3d10 damage necrotic. Used in melee range for good damage.
- Shield of Faith: use a bonus action to grant 2 AC to a character. Useful because this spell requires bonus action, not an action to provide protection.
- Guiding Bolt: 4d6 Radiant damage that grants Advantage on the next Attack Roll against the target. This is very high damage early and helpful because of the Advantage component. Consider this your main offensive spell.
- Cure Wounds: 1d8 heal requiring you to touch the creature to heal it. Melee-based heal isn’t that powerful but at early levels, it can be combined with Healing Word for two heals in one turn.
- Light Cleric Level 1 Spells: Cure Wounds, Inflict Wounds, Shield of Faith, Guiding Bolt
Best Cleric Build Bg3 Priorities | Cleric Build Bg3 Gameplay
Your Light Cleric should equip a Quarterstaff and Shield as soon as feasible in the early stages of Baldur’s Gate 3. The Amulet of Misty Step and Haste Helm can be used later in Act 1 to make up for the Cleric’s lack of natural mobility. Also, try to obtain the Potion of Speed and Elixir of Bloodlust. You may use these two consumables together to increase your damage and number of actions.
Best Cleric Build Bg3 Priorities is the following:
- Finish Prologue
- Recruit Other Companions
- Get to Druid Grove or Hollowed City
- Sell, complete quest, stock up
- Open respec to proper ability score, Withers
- Move to level 5
- Reach Grymforge or Underdark
Level 2
You’ll be able to cast more spells before needing a long rest since you’ll have an additional spell slot. In addition, you receive the Channel Divinity charges at level 2, and you can prepare five spells. The majority of the gameplay remains same, with the addition of Radiance of the Dawn, which increases your damage. Turn Undead is useful in several types of battles. Utilize the Command spell to drop an opponent’s weaponry or place them in a prone state effect for effective crowd control.
- Subclass Features
- Radiance of the Dawn: Use the sun’s heavenly strength to drive out any magical darkness and deal (2d10 + cleric level) Radiant damage to any hostile creatures nearby. Creatures only sustain half of the damage on a successful saving throw. It has no effect on creatures that are completely hidden from you. This works well on melee characters but may deliver a surprisingly high amount of damage on range builds.
- Turn Undead: causes “Turned.” While you pray, display your holy symbol. Any undead with eyes or ears has to run away from you. Not a horrible spell using the “Turn” mechanic specifically. The enemy will have to make a wisdom saving throw after casting. They’ll flee if they don’t succeed. It strikes several enemies at a decent range, but they have to be in your cleric’s line of sight.
- Spells Feature
- Command: Give a creature commands to run away, approach closer, freeze, fall to the ground, or drop their weapon eighteen meters away, needing concentration. This is an effective localized crowd control effect that has the ability to make force weapons to drop. When the game is early and there are a lot of enemies.
Light Cleric Level 2 Spells: Guiding Bolt, Shield of Faith, Command, Cure Wounds, Inflict Wounds
Level 3
Similarly, some spells will be available as level 2 spells, and you’ll receive an extra spell slot. Spells with higher levels have longer-lasting effects and cause more damage. Thus, as soon as you get access to those at level 3.
- Subclass Features
- Scorching Ray: Hurl 3 rays of fire. Each ray deals 2∼12 Fire damage. Great spell overall, that deals decent damage and you’ll find yourself using it a lot, even or later levels.
- Flaming Sphere: Call out a flaming sphere that does damage to adjacent enemies and objects. A 6 m radius of bright light and another 6m radius of dim light are emitted by the sphere. Fantastic Summon with the ability to damage enemies in addition to having a respectable hit point total, especially early in the game.
- Spell Features
- Spiritual Weapon: Call out a spiritual weapon to strike enemies in the region. This is fantastic since it doesn’t need concentration and allows you to use bonus action. Spear form is advised; each form has a unique strike that might debuff the enemy.
- Light Cleric Level 3 Spells: Guiding Bolt, Shield of Faith, Command, Spiritual Weapon, Inflict Wounds, Cure Wounds
Level 4
The Cleric gains one cantrip, one more prepared spell, and a feat or ability boost at level four. Now that you have reached level 18, you have the ability to prepare an additional spell, therefore we advise you to raise your ability score by 2. The gameplay remains mostly the same at this level; better ability scores will result in more damage and healing.
- Cantrip Features
- Blade Ward: Attacks that pierce, slash, and Bludge only deal half of their damage. This is a good cantrip to use in anticipation of melee damage.
- Feat Features
- Ability Improvement: add +2 Ability points to Wisdom
- Spell Features
- Lesser Restoration: Heal a creature from disease, poison, paralysis, or blindness. You may now remove several status effects, which will come in handy early in the game in a variety of scenarios.
- Light Cleric Level 4 Spells: Guiding Bolt, Shield of Faith, Cure Wounds, Lesser Restoration, Inflict Wounds, Command, Spiritual Weapon
Level 5
At level five, the Light Cleric gains two free spells via your subclass and you get to select a level 3 spell. Mass Healing Word is the greatest healing option in this situation because it offers large AOE healing and just needs a bonus action, as opposed to one action.
- Subclass Features
- Fireball: Shoot a bright flame from your fingers that explodes upon contact, torching everything in the vicinity. On Save: Targets still take half damage. Simply a fantastic AoE spell that deals a massive amount of damage to the enemies in the area.
- Daylight: Enchant an item to shine like the sun or summon a sphere of sunlight that dispels all darkness around it. Useful especially if you or other companions in your group don’t have dark vision.
- Destroy Undead: When you successfully Turn an undead creature, it also takes 4-24 Radiant Damage. Good Addition to your damage spell toolkit
- Spell Features
- Mass Healing Word: heal for 1d4+3 up to 6 creatures Using a bonus action his is a very powerful wide area-based heal that can be combined with an action in the same turn.
- Glyph of Warding: Decent AoE that can apply different magical and status effects Inscribe a circle of arcane glyphs on the ground that triggers a magical effect when stepped on by an enemy.
You should experience a significant increase in power at this point. You will be able to use the potent area-based damaging spells Glyph of Warding and Fireball. Fireball is one of the top damaging spells that may be upcast. In other words, you may cause even more damage by using higher-level spell slots later on in the leveling process. The element type of the glyph of warding may be selected, which makes it helpful. When enemies are weak against the cold or resistant to fire, etc., this is useful. Additionally, be sure that your region radius excludes any friendly allies. When casting, modify your circle since they will also suffer damage.
Moreover, Turn Undead now has far greater strength thanks to Destroy Undead. In essence, they will absorb a great deal of Radiant Damage. For this reason, in Act 1, you give Luminous Armour priority. This debuffs enemies and produces a Radiant Shockwave, making it an incredibly potent combination.
- Light Cleric Level 5 Spells: Guiding Bolt, Inflict Wounds, Cure Wounds, Command, Lesser Restoration, Glyph of Warding, Shield of Faith, Spiritual Weapon, Mass Healing Word
Level 6
A Light Cleric gains an additional level three spell and Improved warding Flare at level six. First, use the bonus action to summon a Spiritual Weapon during your first turn. Usually, use Guiding Bolt on the most powerful enemies or cast Fireball on the enemies that are piled. If healing is required, use the Mass Healing Word and Cure Wounds.
- Spell Feature
- Speak with Dead: Allow a corpse that still has a mouth and is not an undead to answer 5 questions to the caster. Useful mainly outside of combat
You should be about ready to leave Act 1 at Level 6. Check for traders and make sure you have enough supplies for camp and alchemy. Don’t forget to check out the top Act 1 items. Furthermore, there are also permanent benefits you don’t want to miss in Act 1. Ultimately, the Grymforge may be utilized long into Act 3 because to its powerful armor and weaponry (Adamantine). You won’t be able to go back to Act 2, so think about spending some time gathering the crafting items before proceeding.
- Light Cleric Level 6 Spells: Guiding Bolt, Cure Wounds, Command, Lesser Restoration, Mass Healing Word, Speak with the Dead, Shield of Faith, Glyph of Warding, Spiritual Weapon, Inflict Wounds
Level 7
The Light Cleric acquires two subclass-specific spells and one level 4 spell slot at level 7. It’s important to cast Spiritual Weapon and Fireball on the first turn. Then, if your squad is doing well, you switch to priority mode and prioritize damage or healing, if you don’t have another dedicated healer in the group. Also, employ Glyph of Warding for area damage and Guiding Bolt for a single target. Use Banishment if crowd control is required.
- Subclass Feature
- Guardian of Faith: When a hostile creature is within ten feet of the formed guardian, they have to make a Dexterity saving or else receive twenty radiant damage. This summonses a generated guardian who cannot move but does damage in a 10ft radius. Every time it deals harm, it suffers damage. This spell has the benefit of working well when combined with a Spiritual Weapon. Both actions—one is a bonus action and the other is an action—don’t require concentration. Thus, you can use Spiritual Weapon and Guardian to interrupt the activity on turn one.
- Wall of Fire: Make a blazing wall of fire so hot that anyone who tries to go too close would get burned. In some circumstances, such as when your range of characters and enemies are separated by a narrow doorframe or passage, it can be helpful. Melee enemies will have to pass through the Wall of Fire if you cast it in this precise location in order to reach your characters and do damage. Remember that this spell calls for concentration, so be cautious not to perform it when you’re already concentrated on anything else.
- Spell Feature
- Banishment: Temporarily Banish your target to another plane of existence. Another great crowd-control Spell at the cleric’s disposal.
- Light Cleric Level 7 Spells: Guiding Bolt, Shield of Faith, Command, Spiritual Weapon, Mass Healing Word, Speak with the Dead, Banishment, Glyph of Warding, Lesser Restoration, Cure Wounds, Inflict Wounds
Level 8
At level 8 the Light Cleric gets Potent Spellcasting, an additional level 4 spell slot, and a feat. Not many changes at this level, gameplay stays the same.
- Spells Feature
- Animate Dead: Make an undead servant out of a corpse. A useful summoned creature to have in your possession. Seek for random corpses to summon before fighting because this needs to be done outside of combat.
- Feat Feature
- Eldritch Blast: Conjure beam(s) of crackling energy. As you go through the levels, this cantrip produces several beams: two beams at level five and three beams at level ten. Every beam is rolled separately.
- Spell Sniper: Eldritch Blast is the best cantrip in the game and the spell sniper feat guarantees you’ll get higher damage with your spells.
- Subclass Feature
- Potent Spellcasting: Your god grants you even more intense power. You can add your Wisdom Modifier to the damage you deal with cantrips. This subclass feature will increase your damage with spells.
Spellcasters have fewer options when it comes to damage than melee builds. If you constantly find yourself holding concentration spells, War Caster is a useful feat. While Lucky is an excellent offensive and defensive feat, Shield Master is ideal for survivability.
- Light Cleric Level 8 Spells: Guiding Bolt, Shield of Faith, Cure Wounds, Lesser Restoration, Glyph of Warding, Speak with the Dead, Banishment, Animate Dead, Mass Healing Word, Spiritual Weapon, Inflict Wounds, Command
Level 9
Level 9 grants the Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Evocation Wizard Build access to level 5 spells, one additional prepared spell, and the ability to select two more spells to study.
- Subclass Features
- Destructive Wave: End a curse, a state that is petrified or charmed, a loss in ability points or HP, or a level of exhaustion.
- Flame Strike: Up to 6 creatures regain 3d8+Spell Ability modifier
- Spell Features
- Mass Cure Wounds: Six creatures may be restored to 3d8+Spell Ability modifier. Wonderful mass healing spell that is incredibly potent on Clerics of all subclasses.
- Light Cleric Level 9 Spells: Guiding Bolt, Inflict Wounds, Cure Wounds, Command, Lesser Restoration, Speak with the Dead, Banishment, Mass Cure Wounds, Mass Healing Word, Shield of Faith, Animate Dead, Glyph of Warding, Spiritual Weapon
Cleric Multiclassing Options
At Level 9, the Cleric can elect to multi-class. There are benefits and drawbacks but leveling up the Light Cleric to level 6 is preferable. Here is a quick summary of your options:
- Sorcerer (four levels): The Sorcerer has access to metamagic, which expands their manipulation of magical abilities. One is Twinned, which allows you to perform a single spell twice on the same target. You can use your extra action to cast another spell, Quickened. This serves to reinforce the clerics’ weaknesses. The main drawback is that you won’t be able to use higher level spells.
- Fighter (two levels): The two-level fighter possesses Action Surge. This allows you to take an extra action once every fight and recharges during short rests. This helps address the primary problem with Clerics, which is their lack of various actions. Although you do lose another feat and level 6 spells.
- Rogue or Thief (three levels): Given that you can receive an extra bonus action, this is a respectable alternative. Although not very useful, it can be used as a resource for utility.
- Druid (three levels): Wild Shape can be helpful simply for extra health and utility.
The Cleric isn’t very helpful for multiclassing overall. You employ Wisdom as your main spellcasting modifier, which explains why. Druid is therefore the obvious pick, however in the early levels, that class does not unlock strong subclass passives. You get more resources with the Sorcerer and Rogue/Thief, but it’s easier, simpler, and more efficient to just use the Cleric.
Level 10
Level 10 grants the Life Cleric access to the Divine Intervention class feature, one cantrip, an additional spell slot, and an additional prepared spell for use with the Cleric Build Guide in Baldur’s Gate 3.
- Class Feature
- Divine Intervention: You can ask your god for assistance by casting Divine Intervention. This is only useful once and cannot be reused. With this one-time-only spell, you have a few choices, but a damaging spell is the most obvious. There is enormous huge damage a massive area.
- Spells Feature
- Greater Restoration: End a curse, a condition that has you petrified or charmed, a decrease in your HP or ability scores, or a level of exhaustion. Similar to the restoration utility spell but with the ability to terminate more status effects.
- Cantrip Feature
- Resistance: Increase a target’s resistance to spell conditions and effects: It gains a bonus of +1d4 to Saving Throws. This is a support cantrip that can make tough battles more survivable.
- Light Cleric Level 10 Spells: Guiding Bolt, Inflict Wounds, Shield of Faith, Cure Wounds, Spiritual Weapon, Lesser Restoration, Speak with the Dead, Mass Cure Wounds, Great Restoration, Mass Healing Word, Banishment, Animate Dead, Command, Glyph of Warding
Level 11
The Light Cleric domain gains access to one level 6 spell slot and one new spell at level 11, bringing its total prepared spell count to 15.
- Spell Feature
- Planar Ally: Beseech one of these otherworldly entities for aid.
You are limited to one spell slot at level 6, and you cannot acquire more. Act 3 offers two Quarterstaves that get around this problem: Markoheshki and the Spellpower Staff. You can negate a spell slot with any of these quarterstaves, effectively cheesing two level 6 spell slots.
Planar Ally and Heroes’ Feast are two incredible spells that last at this level until a long rest. At this level, select Planar Ally to summon a Deva with great damage, high movement speed, and strong health. The nicest thing about the Planar Ally is that it stacks with other summons, allowing you to have a small crew roaming you while you explore until you take a long rest Distractions, utility, and Free damage.
