Ansur Bg3 introduction

Players will come across the undead form of Ansur the Dragon, an optional monster in Baldur’s Gate 3. According to the legend, the dragon lives underneath Baldur’s Gate. He is known as the Heart of the Gate, has ties to the Emperor, and is essential to the quest to destroy the Elder Brain.

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Dragon Ansur, Balduran’s once-ally, actually lives underneath the city, waiting for a genuine hero to return, making the Legend of Ansur more than simply a pretentious fairy tale. Players must demonstrate their bravery in the Wyrmway in order to obtain Ansur’s aid in the fight against the Absolute and to advance Wyll’s personal questline.

Only then is the reality exposed: Ansur is already dead and isn’t waiting for a hero. The conflict starts after the Emperor and Ansur’s resurrected corpse have a highly illuminating conversation. It’s advised to bring a balanced, maximum-level party to the Wyrmway because it’s one of the hardest boss fights in Baldur’s Gate 3 with some incredible rewards, but even that doesn’t ensure victory.

Who is Ansur Bg3 The Dragon?

Balduran, the founder of Baldur’s Gate, formerly had Ansur the Dragon as an ally. Balduran looked for every kind of cure after becoming infected by the Illithid. But when every remedy failed, Ansur was swayed by the delusion that his friend’s suffering would be permanently ended—an act of mercy in the dragon’s eyes.

A struggle resulted from Ansur’s extreme attempt to kill Balduran. The man he had thought was his friend killed the dragon, turning him into a myth.

You will have to overcome Ansur, a greater dragon with several tricks in its sleeve in the fight against the undead enemy. After navigating through the several challenges that Balduran, who you learn is The Emperor, has constructed, you may not be prepared to fight. Fortunately, we can combine a few strategies to make this battle easier.

Where to Find Ansur Bg3 the Dragon

The dragon lies beneath Wyrm’s Rock Fortress, beneath the city of Baldur’s Gate. Break through the wall next to the entrance of Wyrm Rock Prison. Next, enter the chamber and proceed through the right-hand door until you come to a dead end.

Two draconic torches facing one another are located on the left. By attacking these torches with lightning, you can reveal a hidden passageway. To get to an iron gate, take the path on the right. The Wyrmway is located beyond the gate.

The Chamber of Justice, the Chamber of Courage, the Chamber of Insight, and the Chamber of Strategy are the four chambers that make up the Wyrmway. To get admission to the Dragon’s Sanctum, Solve these four trials. A statue of Balduran exists in the sanctum, and there is space for another in front of it, suggesting the two characters’ history.

The Wyrm’s Rock Fortress prison serves as the entrance to Ansur’s Lair. Wyrm’s Rock may be accessed in a number different methods, but the simplest one is as follows:

  1. Find the coordinates X:32 and Y:159 in Wyrm’s Crossing.
  2. Once you’re there, you should find a wooden balcony.
  3. With Feather Fall or plenty of healing spells or potions, jump your way down from the balcony to the fortress.
  4. Walk around the outside of the fortress until you find a crack in the wall.

You must locate the entrance to Ansur’s Lair now that you are inside the Fortress. Locate two Dragon’s Head torches on the wall at the coordinates X:36 and Y:-732. You must use a lightning attack, such as Lightning Bolt or Witch Bolt, on both to unlock the secret passageway. I used Jaheira for this. But Gale is also an option.

  1. Follow the path and pass through an Iron Gate (X:17 and Y:-701).
  2. Interact with the statue of Balduran, who will tell you the four challenges you must face.
  3. Ask him to open the door and head inside.

How To Defeat Ansur Bg3 dragon The Heart Of The Gate

Your conflict with Ansur, Heart of the Gate, and The One Who Roars is an epic encounter that surpasses all boss battles in Baldur’s Gate 3. Furthermore, no boss can humble you as rapidly. Only the best-prepared will win in a tough thrilling battle that will make you wish you were wearing rubber boots.

And we can help with that. We’re here with your lightning rod and rubber boots, loaded with the most effective ways to defeat Ansur. We are certain that you will permanently rip the wings off this dragon if you have fought thus far and defeated the obstacles to locate him.

In addition to his ability to knock individuals out of the Globe of Invulnerability with a variety of movements and actions, Ansur’s Legendary Actions call for extra zone planning and caution. Frightful Presence action was also introduced, which had not been detected before.

What To Prepare To Defeat Ansur

With just two Water Myrmidons to help him, Ansur is a rather simple boss. His main full battlefield hit can 1HKO the majority of enemies, yet he usually deals Lightning damage.

The main items you wish to enter are:

  • Items that deal increased damage to dragons.
    • Arrows of Dragon-Slaying
  • Spells that give resistance to Lightning damage.
    • Fiendish Resistance
    • Protection from Energy
    • Potion of Lightning Resistance
  • Equipment’s that increase damage output on attacks.
    • Phalar Aluve – Singing Melody
    • Hunter’s Mark
    • Amulet of Branding
  • Damaging spells with Dexterity Saving Throws.
  • Encounter Ansur’s lightning charge.
    • Movement options to reach crystal barricade shelters
    • Globe of Invulnerability

To boost your total damage output, you might also wish to attempt conjuring creatures. For this battle, it might be quite helpful to conjure elementals or use the Necromancy of Thay’s Danse Macabre skills.

Make sure you cast any bonuses you may desire in Turn-Based Mode before you go talk to Ansur.

To keep your squishier party members away from Ansur, split your members after that. Otherwise, the battle will start with your whole group standing clumsily on the cliff before Ansur or in a cluster where the myrmidons may hit many party members at once.

  • Legendary Action Draconic Fury: Ansur can use Lightning Breath as a Legendary Action once each round following an assault.
  • Legendary Resistance Incapacitation: Ansur has a +10 on saving throws (such Command, Hold Monster, etc.) that prevent incapacitation.

Heart of the Gate Ansur Bg3 Attacks and Actions

  • Lightning Breath: Deals 12d6 Lightning damage is half for a successful Dexterity save and half for a failing one. Additionally, targets are shocked after a failed dexterity save.
  • Slam: Deals all enemies within 4 meters of Ansur 6d8 + 7 Bludgeoning damage.
  • Multiattack: Deals 4d8 + 7 Lightning, 3d8 + 7 Piercing, and 4d8 + 7 Bludgeoning damage.
  • Gather Power: Ansur starts hoarding energy in anticipation of launching a devastating assault at the next turn. Ansur develops resistance to all forms of damage.
  • Frightful Presence: On a failed Wisdom Saving Throw, Ansur can roar, causing all adjacent enemies who can hear to become Fearful for up to two rounds.
  • Bout of Storms: To the turn order, Ansur calls out five lightning strikes. A creature will sustain 6d10 Lightning damage if they are standing in one of the blue sigils during the Bout of Storms’ turns.
  • Stormheart Nova: Offers 18d10 Damage from lightning throughout the battlefield.

Reduce Ansur’s health as quickly as you can throughout the opening phase of the fight. Yes, you have to do the same thing in Phase Two, but your objective is to try to activate his Stormheart Nova as soon as possible.

His Stormheart Nova does not discriminate, therefore you do not need to hit his allied myrmidons. In the same swift motion, you will also mainly eliminate the Myrmidons by triggering his final attack.

Unless three turns have elapsed, Ansur’s Stormheart Nova normally activates between 50 and 66 percent of his health bar. Regardless of how much health he has left, he generally starts charging his attack on Turn Four.

Do as much damage as you can. You might be possible to kill him before or during his charging attack  if you’re lucky or have a good plan. If you do you’ll receive an achievement.

You have to withstand his Stormheart Nova attack, though, if you don’t think you can kill him before then. There are only three ways to avoid it as it travels the whole length of the battlefield:

  • Cast Globe of Invulnerability.
  • Get off battlefield using Misty Step or Dash.
  • Dash behind any of the ice pillars in the room to take cover.

Although the third approach is more simpler and now offers a useful Resistance bonus, it is still advised to use Globe of Invulnerability to make sure you don’t suffer any damage from Phase Two or the initial attack.

As Ansur launches his assault, hit him with your party. Take cover behind any of the icy pillars on the field as they finish their turns, making sure they are entirely between you and Ansur.

As an alternative, you can send your wizard to the location of your group, grouping them in a single area prior to the attack, and then cast Globe of Invulnerability on each member. No party member standing inside this globe will stand any damage.

If the myrmidons attempt to enter your globe, you can use Eldritch Blast Repelling Invocation or Thunderwave to drive them out.

Fighting The Myrmidons Ansur Bg3

Ansur can be actively healed by the myrmidons. This doesn’t affect the fight, despite the initial impression.

Follow these steps:

  • Don’t group your party.
  • Focus on Ansur Bg3.
  • Keep the myrmidons outside safe zones inside Globe of Invulnerability and behind crystals.

If you have trouble destroying them, keep in mind that Ansur’s Stormheart Nova can destroy these myrmidons or that spells like Thunderwave can force them into chasms for immediate deaths. Attacking them is not necessary. At best, they are minor distractions.

Fighting Ansur Bg3 In Tactician Or Honour Mode

It is crucial to remember that the strategies in this tutorial are based on the Balance mode. When playing Tactician or above, Ansur will acquire many noteworthy abilities:

  • Legendary Resistance.
  • Legendary Action.
  • Knock you out from Globe of Invulnerability.
  • Frightful Presence Action.

The Legendary Action is the most crucial. All dragons in Tactician mode will have Legendary Actions instead of being locked in Honour Mode, unlike other bosses in the game.

Anyone who hits Ansur with the first damaging strike in a round will be punished by his Legendary Action while fighting him at a higher level of difficulty. It appears that his Legendary Action is not triggered by missed attacks.

His Lightning Breath attack, a cone lightning attack, is quickly cast as his Legendary Action. This implies that if your other character is standing close to the initial attacker, they will also sustain damage, even if they haven’t tried anything yet.

Follow these steps to fix this problem:

  • Hit using highest HP creature and Each round, divide up the responsibilities.
  • Ideally, each member of your party should be on a separate side of Ansur.
  • By all means, ensure that your main damage dealer and healer have access to Resist Lightning.
  • If it’s not absolutely necessary, don’t hit with your healer first.

The Frightful Presence is the next issue. In the second phase of the fight, when he is most likely to employ this action, this can cost you significant turns.

Follow these steps to fix this problem:

  • Cleric: with Calm Emotions ready.
  • Paladin: who has prepared the Heroism spell and is fearless.

Lastly, Ansur can use his Slam attack, Opportunity Attack, and Fly action when he lands to knock anyone out of the Globe of Invulnerability.

In order to attract Ansur’s attention, it is recommended to keep your healer and one other character with lower health such as a spellcaster inside the globe while your greater characters leave but remain within range of it.

Check the following during the second phase of combat:

  • Try your best to reduce the damage using your healer.
  • At the start, draw the Legendary Action attack with one character.
  • Use your tank stationed far away from the globe to activate Ansur’s Reaction if your spellcaster will draw Opportunity Attack after leaving the globe.
  • Step back into the globe after taking your spellcaster out a step to deliver damage.

How To Defeat Ansur Bg3 Baldurs Gate 3 Honor Mode

How to DEFEAT ANSUR | Baldurs Gate 3 HONOR MODE

Phase Two: How To Survive The Lightning Strikes And Defeat Ansur Bg3

The earth will now be randomly marked with blue sigils that join the end of the round order once Ansur has unleashed his Stormheart Nova strike. When it’s their turn, lightning will hit the ground.

These sigils may inflict serious damage on anyone within and will shift positions during every combat round. Every round, you’ll be forced to avoid Ansur’s jumps to an area close to a party member which causes him to push them aside and lightning strikes.

Globe of Invulnerability is unaffected by the sigils, though. You will not be harmed by Ansur or lightning strikes if you cast it and remain inside it.

Use the globe’s advantage and use fire outside of it to kill Ansur if you cast it. Make use of strong ranging attacks and spells the one who casts the Globe uses non-concentration spells.

Ansur loves to hop around the battlefield, so if necessary, only send out your toughest, tankier characters from around the globe.

You will eventually be able to reduce Ansur’s remaining health. Before the Globe of Invulnerability expires, you’ll probably kill him.

Until Ansur is defeated, keep hitting him and, if you don’t have the globe, move around. You can use repelling spells to force any leftover myrmidons over the edge of the battlefield or kill them if there are any left.

Ansur’s legendary sword may be looted from his body once all enemies have been destroyed. In the stone structure building the battlefield, a legendary helm is also sitting on the altar. It will show you the route out if you take it.

How To Get The Achievement Crash Landing Ansur Bg3

An uncommon and optional achievement for the Ansur fight is “Crash Landing.” Ansur has to be destroyed when he is launching his attack into the air. This significantly alters Ansur’s approach, and it requires a significant amount of setup to accomplish.

If there are too many people gathered around Ansur in the middle of the arena when his charge-up is activated, the achievement may be blocked. Ansur will charge his strike on the ground rather than in the air, requiring you to either reload the save or give up on the achievement.

Begin by using Polearm Master to cast Haste on a Lae’zel fighter. We hit Ansur just enough during Turn One’s setup to stop him from using his hoarding energy move:

  • Brand The Weak: Slashing while wearing Wyll’s Amulet of Branding to increase vulnerability to the fighter’s weapon.
  • Hunter’s Mark: with the Grymskull Helmet-wearing Fighter striking without Action Surge increased damage
  • Sing: Having our cleric’s Phalar Aluve for Advantage sword in hand.

Lae’zel alone launched ten strikes in Turn Two after the fighter launched the full number of attacks, action surged, and launched three more attacks before launching the Polearm Strike. Her turn was damaged by 168 as a result.

Before Misty Stepping Away, our spellcaster, wizard Gale, used Cone of Cold to strike Ansur and the myrmidons. He also turned the ground to ice, which stopped Ansur from electrifying the ground.

This tactic relies on the spellcaster casting Haste never getting hit or losing Concentration. To evade the myrmidons, move them about and keep them in the back.

Wyll utilized powerful spells like Hunger of Hadar causing blindness and Eldritch Blast, while the cleric used a high-level cast of Guiding Bolt for further advantage.

By the conclusion of the turn, Ansur had 26 HP left in his health and had started to charge up.

Despite Ansur’s resistances, the spellcaster used Level 5 Artistry of War to beat him at the start of the following turn, making sure that every strikes hit and depleted his remaining health pool.

Benefits of this stratgy are:

  • Make boosting damage output and obtaining an attack advantage your top priorities.
  • Deal some damage in your first turn, but prepare for a significant damage-dealing attack on your second turn.
  • When Ansur charges, use powerful magic attacks and sure-fire strikes to take him out.
  • Use all available spells and feats to deliver as much damage as you can on your second turn.

How to Beat Ansur Bg3 Dragon summary

Preparation for Ansur Bg3 dragon

  • Because the dragon has an abundance of strikes that cause lightning damage, have Lightning Resistance potions on hand. Additionally, you can use the Protection from Energy spell to do this and give your team the debuffs they need.
  • To lessen the impact of AOE attacks, split your party before starting a dialogue with the dragon. Additionally, you may cover the dragon from different perspectives thanks to this.
  • A legendary Greatsword may be seen behind the dragon. Have a sneak character get behind the dragon before engaging with Ansur. Change to that character and pick up the sword in the middle of the dialogue. If required, launch a sneak attack to begin the attack.
  • Because they feature a perk that doubles the damage inflicted to dragons, carry Dragon-Slaying arrows.

Fight the Dragon Ansur Bg3

Watch out for Myrmidons as the battle begins. These are minions fighting for your attention in the arena. Instead, concentrate on Ansur and avoid wasting turns on them. Damage is distributed around the arena by the dragon’s AOE attacks. Hide behind the adjacent ice crystals as he launches the assault. You can teleport behind them using Misty Step, dash behind the crystal, or jump to cover. Stormheart Nova, an AOE attack, will damage the minions and probably destroy them completely.

The dragon will use lightning bolts after using Stormheart Nova. Lightning resistance is crucial in this situation. You can now attack Ansur from several different directions if you first divided the party. Attacks from a distance will be particularly effective.

Rewards for Killing Ansur Bg3 Dragon

Balduran’s Giantslayer, the weapon that killed the dragon, is dropped by Ansur after he has met his second death. Additionally, you will encounter a letter addressed to “Dear Ansur.” The sincere letter, written by Balduran, asks the dragon to stop looking for a cure. Additionally, you need to gather the Legendary Helm of Balduran.

All Ansur Bg3 Dragon loot in Baldur’s Gate 3

You will receive two things as a prize for your amazing reward of killing Ansur, and they are as follows:

  • Helm of Balduran: You may pick up this legendary helm at the altar behind Ansur.
  • Balduran’s Giantslayer: You can find this legendary two-handed weapon on Ansur’s corpse.

Once you have both, equip the deserving party members and get ready for the next phase of your adventure. Despite the fact that this was not a primary quest in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will have shown your party that you are a formidable enemy, and you may get ready to battle the Netherbrain, the last enemy.
